Cobleskill-Richmondville High School seniors have been showing their class pride with blue t-shirts that say, “Senior World.”

The seniors’ world got a little bit brighter this week, thanks to a generous donation from the Cobleskill-Richmondville Education Foundation and Sterling Insurance Group.

On Monday (March 22), CREF presented senior class officers with a donation of $5,000, plus another $1,000 from Sterling Insurance Group that was earmarked for the senior class fund.

CREF’s donation was prompted by “Save Our Seniors,” a parent-led organization launched by C-R’s cheerleaders and All Sports Booster Club that has been working throughout the school year to recognize the Class of 2021. Save Our Seniors also received a smaller donation from CREF.

In addition, Christopher and Robin Stauble donated $100, an amount that was matched by Sterling.

“We're truly humbled by the donations from CREF and Sterling,” said Brett Barr, C-R High School’s principal. “Both will go a long way in making the end of the year special for our seniors.”

Senior class officers received the checks during a brief ceremony outside the high school attended by CREF President Gayle Westervelt, Josh McCann on behalf of Sterling, C-R Superintendent of Schools Carl Mummenthey, and members of the high school staff.

“The excitement conveyed by the Senior Class officers upon presentation of the checks was visible and palpable -- even with masks,” said Gayle Westervelt, president of CREF.

The donation will help pay for events and memorabilia to recognize seniors. Class officers are working with Mr. Barr as well as their advisors, Nancy Goldblatt and Tarrence Lasher, to plan specific ways to use the money.

“I would like to say thank you to CREF, Mr. McCann, and Sterling for their generosity and kindness,” added Rana Brown-Dimick, the C-R senior class President. “The Class of 2021 is so grateful for the donations, and we are excited to see what it allows us to do to end our senior year the best way we can.”
