Sixth-grade students at Golding Middle School tried their hands at flint-knapping and cave art, among other activities, as part of Archeology Day.

Students learned about the profession of archeology from Heather Clark and Steve Moragne from the New York State Museum and also participated in several hands-on stations.

Among the activities were:

  • Exploring and making observations of Native American artifacts from New York state that were donated by the Iroquois Museum.

  • Learning about the history and evolution of Paleolithic and Neolithic projectile points, and creating a clay point.

  • Learning about and creating cave art.

  •  Participating in a hands-on activity and demonstration of Flintknapping with Barry Keegan, a local museum consultant.
