For the second year in a row, seventh-grader Taylin Mann beat out the competition and claimed first place in the Golding Middle School Spelling Bee. Taylin outlasted 29 other spellers in the contest, held Friday, Dec. 15.
“Desecration” and “gastritis” were no problem for Taylin, as she cruised to the top once again. In the final round, she successfully spelled “animatronics” and “pullets” to clinch the first place spot.
Taylin now qualifies for the Capital Region Spelling Bee, set to take place at Proctors Theatre in Schenectady in February.
Fellow seventh-grader Vera Boniello was the second place finisher, after an intense final round between Taylin and Vera.
Eighth-grader Landon Beisler and sixth-grader Emmi Hughes tied for third place.
