Lemonade Love for Mrs. Westfall
Last week, C-R students and staff from across the district came together to participate in the annual Alex’s Lemonade Stand Lemonade Days - a fundraiser to fund childhood cancer research - and raised more than $3,400.
This year, the funds raised will be donated to Alex’s Lemonade Stand in Ryder Principal Jessie Westfall’s name, as she continues her courageous battle with leukemia.
Kindergarten classes hosted three lemonade stands at Ryder and Golding, selling lemonade and cookies, and raised more than $1,300!
Intervention classes at Radez hosted two lemonade stands this year, also selling lemonade and cookies (homemade by intervention classes), and raised more than $1,000!
Additional donations from the website fundraiser, Cobleskill Fire Department, CRTA, and a stand at the high school brought in an additional $1,065, bringing the total amount raised to nearly $3,400.
The mission of Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation is to change the lives of children with cancer through funding impactful research, raising awareness, supporting families, and empowering everyone to help cure childhood cancer.
Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of 4-year-old Alexandra “Alex” Scott, who was fighting cancer and wanted to raise money to find cures for all children with cancer.
Her spirit and determination inspired others to support her cause, and when she passed away at the age of 8, she had raised $1 million. Since then, the Foundation bearing her name has evolved into a national fundraising movement.
Today, ALSF is one of the leading funders of pediatric cancer research in the U.S. and Canada having raised more than $250 million so far, funding over 1,000 research projects and providing programs to families affected by childhood cancer.
Alex is the inspiration behind Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation. Alexandra “Alex” Scott (1996-2004) was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a rare form of childhood cancer, before her first birthday. At the age of 4, Alex announced that she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for all children with cancer.
All funds raised go directly to Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer Research, a registered 501(c)3 charity. Careful distribution of grants allows doctors to bring the latest and most promising life saving treatments to seriously ill children. These grants provide hope for childhood cancer patients.
